Believing or Being

Clear vision rests in what we are, not in what we believe.

Experience isn’t what one live,
it’s what one is.

No trust needed
if you’re already “it”.

Doubt is generated by belief.
You live when you no longer need to explain.

Advaitananda Vyasa Goe

Belief is not exclusive to the religious sphere, as we tend to think. It is an attitude inherent to the unconscious automatisms of the mind. Beliefs are all those convictions and concepts that we take as true or probable, often accepting them from our environment without having validated them through our own experience.

The mind constantly needs patterns to decide how to react immediately, without much thought, to any situation. The lack of mental patterns stresses us and causes uncertainty, insecurity, and fear. We then seek any explanation, rational or not, to fill the void and establish a new pattern, a new belief to cling to.

The problem with beliefs is not whether they are true or justified. The issue is how they condition us. As long as we are unaware of their operation, beliefs make us react by repeating the same patterns over and over again, depriving us of seeing and living the uniqueness of the moment, despite apparent similarities or routines. We react, but we do not live. The sun rises every morning, but it is never the same. The experience is unique every day.

It is not a matter of exchanging one set of beliefs for another, but of turning off the autopilot and taking the reins of our life. To free ourselves from patterns and constraints. To build ourselves consciously, effectively, and harmoniously. To live in accordance with the circumstances of each situation, always remaining faithful to our innermost judgment.

Belief and Dual Confusion

Just as the liar cannot stop building falsehoods to hide his deceit behind a credible facade, the belief that we are an individual self, with its own existence, distinct and separate from LIFE, forces us to cover it with countless dresses to give him an appearance of reality that it does not have on its own.

The resulting construct is a tangle of beliefs that feed off each other, creating the illusion of having an independent entity. An entity that will defend itself tooth and nail to prevent the deception from being uncovered.

Until we uncover the trick of this great illusionist who has us spellbound with the feeling of individuality, we will be unable to realize that we are LIFE and that, therefore, our true nature is none other than the very Nature of LIFE.

It must be pointed out that individualities themselves are not the problem. In fact, we can consider them real to a certain extent if we understand that they are nothing but forms within LIFE. Thus, we will also understand how LIFE manages to appear Multiple while remaining One.

The dual confusion arises from the belief that individualities have their own existence and that LIFE is merely a set of differentiated things. This is, indeed, the mother of all beliefs, the Gordian knot, the keystone that holds up the entire palace of ignorance in which we are trapped.

But how do we untangle the knot of dual confusion?

Stop Believing in Order to Be

Just as when the clouds clear, we receive the warm rays of the sun, or when the waters are calm, the bottom becomes visible, as soon as we stop believing and set aside the egoic illusion, what we are—our real nature, the Non-Dual Presence of LIFE—becomes clearly evident, in fullness.

Clear vision rests in what we are, not in what we believe.

We look in the wrong direction when we search “outside” for external supports to lean on to ease uncertainty and achieve a sense of security and control. A fleeting sense, indeed, first because of the impermanence inherent to LIFE, and second because every belief needs to be continuously reaffirmed, faced with constant doubt about whether it is true and whether it is the best possible.

It is by looking “inside” that we can find what we truly are. And even if we are not fully aware of it, we can logically sense that if we are forms within LIFE, our nature is that of LIFE itself.

Therefore, we must stop believing in order to be.

Let us stop clinging to false securities and trust in what resonates most deeply within us.

Let us stop seeking shelters in which to hide: certainties are not needed; patterns are not needed; doctrines are not needed. It will suffice to adapt to each circumstance we live through.

Let us leave the unstability of belief and rest in the harmonious fullness of LIFE.

Let us set aside the interference of the self so we can hear the voice of LIFE.

Let us be aware that anything that reinforces the belief that we are an individuality separate from LIFE, will keep us bound to the confusion in which we live.

Let us sincerely trust what resonates most intimately within us, and we will gradually realize what we truly are.

We have everything we need to begin, without delay, the perfect construction of oneself.
More—much more—than having: we already are!

Let us be aware of it, and we will discover the joy of being.
